So I figured I'd inflict it upon you too.
You're welcome.

"til Saturday-ay-ay..."
I first realized the existence of Norma Jean Wright's post-Chic solo work by way of TJB's wonderful much missed blog (where oh where is TJB, I wonder? Spreading his great good taste and style to the world, I hope. Ahem).
Anyway, Ms. Wright's finest work (I think) is this track. It's on near constant rotation in my car...whether it be Saturday night or Wednesday morning. It always cheers me up.
Like she says, "If you left it up to me, every day would be Saturday."
Profound it ain't.
But, I mean, really, who wants profundity in disco?
No.
What I want is extended super-smooth vibraphone...driving me into a vibraphone frenzy, baby!
(And lots of it.)

belated bells
Repost, reminded by way of pomobohemian's lovely post on the wonderful Laura's recent birthday...and because it's so damned beautiful.
(I shall burn some Patti Labelle incense in her honor)

just cuz
I know I'm taking notes. All I need is a big yellow bedsheet
and a buttload of bugle beads. Halston, I'm guessing?

Sade-ities
Ugh
In the meantime, here are some throwback jams.....one you think you've heard, but you probably haven't.
I know I hadn't.
I've always said, that if I could be a woman, I'd like to be Sade.
Wouldn't that be great?
Think of how much fun it would be to order at the drive thru with that voice.
Oh, and this one.
I used to have a cassingle (!) of this.
Alas, it was swept off in the storm.
Damn you, Katrina!

"you silly fool, you can't change your fate...."
It takes me an hour to get downtown and to wait in a long, cold line to pay to park, and then walk to the Federal courthouse.
I have to practically undress in the lobby twice a day, (morning and lunch break) for security. I've streamlined my court outfit since: no belt, no watch, slip on shoes. Yesterday, my juror tag caused the machine to all but spark.
Every day this week we sit there listening to the most mind numbingly repetitious testimony from 8am till 5 pm.
I valiantly try to stay awake, though I'm heavily doped on codeine.
I'm deathly sick, coughing up my lungs, with the head cold from hell.
Sometime around 3 pm yesterday, as I instinctively pulled myself from slumping asleep again in jury seat number 1, I realized I couldn't see very well...that huge white board with all the numbers on it was all blurry.
I felt my left eye tearing.
Was I crying from the searing poignancy of maritime law? A trip to the restroom told me, no, it's just god's little gift of pink eye.
WTF.
Are boils and the murder of my children by tent failure next, Jehovah?
Anyway, in good news, on the way home, I've been listening to this---all 4 disks:

Which I finally got. So excited!
There are a number of great arcane tracks here, but this will always be my favorite:
If there is a heaven, when I die (which I will any day now, I'm sure), I fully demand that this song is to greet me there, dammit.
Oh, and roller skates.
Roller skates.

just because
So pretty!
My inner boyfriend liked it so much, he's buying the Dimitri From Paris Chic Organization Box Set Vol 1 for me. He's learning.

Rufus, featuring Bok Choy
By the way, sake bombs and tempura at 10 pm is not a good idea for future reference.
The first (and last) time I did karaoke, apparently I gained something of a reputation (with my Peabo Bryson, Diana Ross, Foreigner medley).
Not sure if that was good or not.
I was forced to do a solo.
I declined all night, but then this is what was chosen for me:
Not to brag, but I think I might be just one gold sequined tube top and three sake bombs away from getting up on stage.
Unfortunately, instead of having Chaka up on the screen in her full glory, the state-of-the-art, straight-from Japan karaoke machine there shows postcard images of rural Japan:
pretty young Japanese girls coyly splashing water with their toes (Journey's Don't Stop Believin'), Mt. Fuji at sunset (Coolio's Gansta's Paradise), the bullet train. (Amazing Grace)
I had to sing Rufus while watching a panorama of bok choy fields.

clouds and irises
I'm like the Amish, but an Amish with a disco fixation.
Anyway, I got this Larry Levan cd and couldn't wait to put it on. Larry Levan was a somewhat legendary dj in the late 70s, at the Paradise Garage in NYC.
A few years ago when my friend Michael and I went up there we actually made a pilgrimage to see it. Seems it's like a parking garage now, ironically enough.

Having nothing better to do...nowhere better to go...I decided to take a drive...all the way down to Whole Foods, with the cd on full blast.
Who checks out a bouquet of irises, two apples, lavender hand sanitizer and wedge of Dutch goat cheese at 9:30 on a Thursday night?
Apparently I do.
I was excited to find number 2 was none other than "Clouds". I think it must be the most joyous sad song ever...or at least one of them. Seriously, you don't know whether to be happy or sad. That's the genius of it.
By the time I got home I was hoarse, from straining my voice trying to out-Chaka Chaka Khan. Thank god I was alone. I think I might have wilted the irises a bit.
