since it's finally cool enough to turn off the constant roar of the air conditioner:
A frantically ringing church bell.
A ship's horn (I'm miles from the river).
A live band playing Bel Biv Devoe's classic "Poison"
A plaintive train's whistle
A marching band's tuba heavy rendition of "Lady Marmalade"
Twelve million police sirens screaming down Canal
Musical Monday: WHITE CHRISTMAS
-
Darlings, it’s time once again for our annual Christmas tradition (now in
its 18th year, if you can believe it), the perennial “White Christmas,”
done up...

I’d join the second line for that.
we used to live near a river too; I loved the sound of the freighters passing each other.
Last night I heard two fucking little dogs barking. They weren't fucking...sentence structure is bad...just barking. And the wind howling 30mph. I miss New Orleans. I keep saying that, don't I?
Hopefully not all at once.
I am fortunately enough to live in a house with a considerable size garden around it. The only thing I hear at night is just stray cats.
But the worst thing are the birds. Since I normally sleep until noon I am often disturbed by those terrible morning singing birds. Hope the stray cats eat them all...
Sheesh, now I am once again all awash in missing that darn place. Just got over it yesterday after 5 days back home.
What was a marching band doing out maraudering around?
In the Quarter, I used to hear the caliope from the riverboat and drunks loudly puking. How I miss it all.
Poison may have been played by Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes. One of their trademarks. That is better than my loud downstairs neighbor playing Rock Band at 430 am on a school nite or non-school nite. I sleep with earplugs and my neighbors suck. No howling though, like your former neighbor.
Ahhh...to live in N.O!
