Waiting room reading

One of the ways I've been keeping myself occupied lately is  by reading the various trash magazines in various doctors' waiting rooms.
Here's one that caught my attention.
Hey, it's this or "Top Ten Warning Signs of Diabetes", and this is more fun. Well, a little.

Painting parade with Peenee

Recently, when Peenee was in town, he and the lovely "Magda" were kind enough to let me join them on a little jaunt through the consignment store.

You should all be jealous.

While they looked at the antiques, I spent time taking furtive cell phone photos.

I was almost like being in the Louvre with Sr. Wendy!

Anywho...here's a small sampling of some of the ...um...more "artistic" offerings that day:

Harlequin (screaming out his existential angst into the godless void)

Flock of terrifying cross-eyed sea gulls. Hitchcock Schmitcock.

Nude, with (some of her) hair blowing in the wind

art

Last night's theme was particularly artistic. We spent the first part of the evening at the Marigny Opera House (an atmospherically derelict old church) hearing the beautiful Vespers of 1610 by Monteverdi....
....after which we retried to the...um... ever so tragique le Roundup, a musty old gay "cowboy" bar,  inhabited by the demi-monde  ( by which I mean tranny hookers, of course). I was too shy terrified of getting cut by a razor from a weave to take any photos of the lovely ladies there.  But I did snap a photo of this lovely work of art (drag amardillo?). Thanks to the lack of a door on the toilets, one could see (without trying) even more art: black tranny hookers in spandex peeing backwards. Performance art, baby.

Burger King Lear

Today's lunchtime entertainment:
a performance of (what I'm sure had to be) King Lear...his whiskey bottle playing the role of Cordelia.

Seen today at Goodwill.
A masterpiece of post-Feminist neo-Fauvism, I'd say.

in honor of twelfth night

Tonight was Twelfth Night, the official beginning of Carnival, and coincidentally (?), I happened to find this slender volume sitting forlornly on the shelf at the public library.
It was published in 1948 and is a treasure trove of beautiful illustrations. I had to share.

"a group starts out"

"the coach dogs"

"the queen of the carnival"

"exhausted merrymakers"

"maskers' prize competition"

"truck riders"

"the death masker"

"six o'clock"

"comus"

"the zulu parade"

"negro maskers"

"female impersonator"

"the meeting of comus and rex"
