I just got back from the hairdresser. My hairdresser is a very bossy, glamorous Vietnamese woman. She's also a friend of the family of about 20 years.
She squeezed my appointment in during her one day work week, post San Francisco holiday, pre July 4th holiday. Anyway, She refuses to cut my hair the way I want it. Well, she has once, but that's it. And yet I continue to go there. It's a combination of co dependence, loyalty and masochism, I suppose. Much like my life.
The other day, another Vietnamese friend of a friend told me, "Oh, that's how all Vietnamese hairdressers are. They don't listen." She told me this before I even had the chance to mention my problem to her, so I guess it's true.
I think she was particularly distracted today telling me about her best friend's husband's multiple affairs. Anyway, she did a really botched up job. It looked all right in the front, but when I got home and looked more closely, the back was a mess. Even my mother commented on it.
So today I bought a hair clipper and cut the rest off myself.
I now look like I've just escaped Auschwitz.
Or more like the one overfed prisoner who's been scamming the others for their crusts of bread, you know. Still, there's some small comfort knowing that at least my students aren't around to make fun of me. That's what, I guess, friends are for.

It occurs to us that perhaps we have let down the younger generation of
ladystars. We spent years talking about what constitutes a poor choice for
a talk...

oh, i bet it looks nice. but i guess i like a man to cut my hair. thats just me...
Oh honey I’m right there with you. I did this back a few months and had the same prisoner connection. I solved the problem by going canoeing for a few days and letting the sun do it’s job all day long. Felt a little self conscious for a long time until I realized not many people had a comment on what I felt was a drastic change. I guess I have less hair than I thought I did. It’s exactly the length I want it to be now, close on the sides and a little bit longer on top, and I plan to keep it that way.
Tan it, tan it, tan it. Be careful not to burn it though...and enjoy it, baldy men look horny and get more action...trust...
oh it will grow back to be sure
nothing like a new buzz cut to make you feel fresh and new though.
I have a former porn star/hustler daddy who cuts mine and I like it better than I have ever liked any other cut. Plus the dish is pretty darn amusing. Come on out and we'll get our hairs did together.
So I guess you're not up for lunch this week? ;)
I've given myself the Auschwitz cut, too, by mistake. I thought the razor had a guard on it, and it didn't, and ZIP, there went a big chunk of hair. So of course the rest had to be shaved. It wasn't a good look for me. :P
It'll be grown in by the time you start work again.
"baldy men look horny and get more action"
I would beg to differ, or at least pose the question: more action than whom?!
I think glamorous and bossy are taught in Vietnamese beauty school, because my former manicurist was all of those things. Loved her!
I'm in hair "prison" too, but I like the look. It suits me. Good for the summer too!
Jason, pics or it didn't happen! :)
Yeah, right, Jason showing us pictures of himself? HA! ;)
I am chopping my hair soon and can make a donation to you instead of locks for love.
