When I was in middle school, my mother allowed me to join the Columbia House Record Club. Remember them?
The above was one of the many 8 tracks I ordered.
Ummm...you'd think would have been something of a clue for her?
But nope.
And by the looks of this youtube clip, The Ritchie family is still quite popular in Kazhakhstan it seems.
Who knew.
Musical Monday: WHITE CHRISTMAS
-
Darlings, it’s time once again for our annual Christmas tradition (now in
its 18th year, if you can believe it), the perennial “White Christmas,”
done up...

Oh, that was a perfect building block for your middle school education. Popular in Kazhakhstan? I've never been there, but one thing I love about traveling to Latin America is that they are unashamed, even macho straight men, in loving this kind of music.
So, did you ever actaully listen to this, or did you just sit around admiring the cover? And is that Freddie Mercury in the top right?
My first adult record was Grace Jones, "Fame," hello I'm GAY! Mom actually watched Dance Fever with me when Grace sang "Do or Die" and we went to McRae's the next day and bought it... I think she indulged her little gay son, don't worry she had three others. Okay I hate to be an asshole but here I go, I don't think Kazakhstan is considered Latin America or even on the same continent...
I did indeed listen to it.
You'll find this hard to believe, but I actually purchased it for the music and not the cover.
I do remember being both mildly thrilled and embarassed by the cover even back then.
I was actually too naive then to associate it with "being gay."
OMG, that album cover is going straight to Fabulon! :-)
Oddly enough, there was no one named Ritchie in the group!
