Nothing could be Ina....

So, being home in the early afternoons for the past few weeks, I've been able to see lots of "The  Barefoot Contessa".

Is it wrong that I want to be Ina Garten?

I mean really----all day cooking delicious food, wearing giant denim shirts..... hobnobbing with hot gay men, amidst hydrangeas in the Hamptons???

(To paraphrase Ina), how great is that?

Speaking of which, the other day, I happened to catch the episode when, her friend, T. R., shows up to learn how to make love to me a steak dinner. You know the one?
 Good heavens.

I'd be more than happy to show him the "good vanilla."
That's all I'm saying.

One of my bosses asked me if I had a dream in life. My answer was "I want to be Ina Garten". He (a straight fellow), said "WHO??!!!". The sacrilege.

And then you quit, right?

But wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all be Ina?

I've never been known for my cooking. Nor, do I want to be...But the Pioneer Woman's husband is HOT!!

Ina is the "Yankee" version of Paula Deen. How bad could that be.

of course we all want to be her, but bitch worked my last nerve when she was here years ago to sign books. there was a syllabus handed out regarding the rules & regulations and of course, one couldn't speak to her.

that & the fact that HER show is one of the few on the food network that is NOT available on demand. um, i mean it is available on demand, at an extra cost.

so, i still watch her when i can, but am just a bit pleased that she's overtaking the goodyear blimp.

so shoot me.

I used to watch her when I was on the elliptical machine at the gym, when I went to the gym.
And now you know.

My husband and I play Ina and Jeffrey when one of us cooking dinner. We always mention the "good" mayo, olive oil, vanilla, etc. that we are using.

We met Ina at the Fancy Food Show (yes, that's what it's called) in NY a few years back and again at the NY Gift Fair. She was lovely and completely approachable. She asked what our store was all about. As we described it, she asked if we had a website, pulled out her iPad to view it, and oohed and ahhhed over our store as we spoke to her about the business. Then she asked if we wanted to see the gallies of the cover her new cookbook and gave us a preview.

An actress friend of ours was starring in Young Frankenstein on Broadway when Ina taped an episode with her good friend/neighbor (and Young Frankenstein director) Susan Stroman. Said actress friend was part of the cast group that got invited to dinner by Ina at Stro's house. Needless to say, I've resented my friend's good fortune ever since.

Ina's demeanor on television feels awkwardly contrived to me. As though she would rather be anywhere else than being forced to share what any civilized person should already know. I'm glad to see Bill had a delightful meeting with her because clearly I must be wrong. That's a good thing.

yes, bill's experience compels me
to reconsider my joy over her girth.
