coincidence in the wind

"Who was Marilyn Monroe...was she an actress?"
A student asked me today.
She was writing a sentence with the word "siren" and needed help.

"Yes," I answered, wondering if indeed Marilyn qualified as "a siren."

Tonight, flipping on the television, what do I happen upon? None other than
Marilyn herself, Tom Ewell helping her tie on her dress. It's "The Seven Year Itch,"
and for five or so minutes I'm transfixed.

Now here's a cliche, I'm sure, but there's just something about her that makes you fall in love with her.
It's pretty amazing.
I've heard it from straight men, gay men, (needless to say), straight women and gay women all.

As soon as she's off the screen, the movie's too dull to stand. I have to turn it off.

I guess she is a siren after all. I'm not sure what the doom is she's leading us happily to, but I'm pretty sure it's there.

The ultimate siren, I believe.

My favorite Monroe flick is "How To Marry a Millionaire." She's just gold in that movie.

Along the genre of 'the younger generation' I recently had dinner with friends and friends of friends. The subject of music came up and the young 20-something shared that he liked the blues/jazz by "Allen Fitzgerald."

er..that would be "Ella."

You know, I don't think I've ever seen a Marilyn Monroe movie. Maybe I need to put one on my Netflix queue.

The doom, I think, was her own...

Were having synchronistic posts involving Tom Ewell. I love Marilyn and have since the age of 6 when I saw The Seven Year Itch, she has so many funny moments in that movie. I particularly enjoy the scene where she's the Dazzledent model whispering to the audience warning them about Tom Ewell. I think the doom was being such a luminous voluptuary and parading it on a screen, it invited too many demons.
